Introduction to Uzbek Ceramics & Studio Visit

our experience begins with hotel pick-up in Tashkent and a comfortable transfer to a local ceramics studio. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by a skilled artisan and introduced to the rich history of Uzbek ceramic traditions. As you explore the workshop, you'll discover how clay is transformed into decorative and functional works of art, learn about the distinctive styles found across Uzbekistan, and gain insight into the role ceramics have played in everyday life for centuries. This is also a wonderful opportunity to observe the creative environment of a working studio, ask questions, take photographs, and learn about the craftsmanship, symbolism, and artistic techniques that continue to shape Uzbekistan’s ceramic heritage today.

Khustak Painting Workshop

After the introduction, it's time to create your own piece of Uzbek folk art. You'll choose a traditional khustak — a charming clay figurine whistle often inspired by animals, local characters, and scenes from daily life — and paint it under the guidance of the artisan. The workshop is relaxed, beginner-friendly, and suitable for all skill levels. As you work, your host will share stories about the meaning behind these playful figurines, traditional decorative motifs, and the artistic customs that have been passed down through generations. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy the creative process and add your own personal touch to your khustak. Please note that your figurine will not be ready to take home immediately after the workshop. Once painted, it must dry and undergo glazing and kiln firing. The complete finishing process usually takes up to one week before the piece is ready for collection. Following the workshop, you'll be comfortably transferred back to your hotel or another agreed location in Tashkent, carrying with you a unique memory of Uzbekistan's vibrant artistic traditions.
