1

Journey into Samarkand’s Ceramic Heritage

Discover the vibrant world of Uzbek ceramics through a hands-on pottery painting workshop in Samarkand. Accompanied by a friendly local host, you'll be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the workshop of a skilled artisan trained in the renowned Rishtan ceramic tradition, famous for its distinctive blue-green tones, intricate motifs, and centuries of craftsmanship. Upon arrival, you'll be introduced to the history and cultural significance of Rishtan ceramics, one of Uzbekistan's most respected artistic traditions. Your host will help facilitate communication with the artisan, allowing you to learn about the symbolism behind traditional patterns, the preparation of natural mineral pigments, and the techniques passed down through generations of master potters.

2

Hands-On Pottery Painting Experience

You’ll then take part in a hands-on painting session, decorating a ceramic piece using traditional designs inspired by the Silk Road heritage. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, and the artisan will guide you step by step, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable creative experience. Beyond the workshop itself, this experience offers a genuine cultural exchange with local craftspeople and a deeper insight into a living tradition that remains vibrant in modern Uzbekistan. Please note that your ceramic piece will not be ready to take home immediately after the workshop. After painting, it must be carefully dried, glazed, and fired in a kiln. This process typically takes 2–5 days. Guests may return to collect their finished artwork or arrange local or international shipping for an additional fee. At the end of the experience, you'll be comfortably transferred back to your hotel or another agreed location in Samarkand, taking with you a meaningful and lasting connection to Uzbekistan’s ceramic heritage.
