Margilan

Follow the thread from workshop to market

Margilan is a place to understand silk through the people and processes behind it. Yodgorlik and the craft center inside Said Ahmad Khoja Madrasah offer different settings for that encounter. Add Kumtepa on a main-market morning, with smaller heritage sites as quieter optional stops.

Yodgorlik silk factory and museum

Address: 138 Zahiriddin Street, according to Yodgorlik’s own site.

Follow silk through several stages rather than only browsing finished fabric. The site combines production, a museum and a shop, making it a useful introduction to the work behind atlas and adras. Which stages visitors can actually see depends on the working day.

Kumtepa / Qumtepa Bazaar

Address: Qumtepa, Qoshtepa district, west of Margilan; not the central-city produce bazaar.

Long rows of fabrics and ordinary household trade make this a different experience from a curated silk showroom. It is especially relevant after seeing weaving, when patterns and materials have more meaning.

Pir Siddiq / Kaptarxona complex

Address: 159 Navoiy Street, Yo‘rmado‘z neighborhood; official directory coordinates available.

The memorial’s mausoleum, mosque and pigeon-house tradition make it a distinctive heritage stop away from the silk workshops. Local tradition tells of pigeons sheltering the saint, giving the complex its other familiar name, Kaptarxona. The courtyards and decorated entrance reward a quiet visit.
