Join a hands-on ceramic workshop in Samarkand and create your own Samarkand-blue masterpiece, learning traditional cobalt and natural pigment techniques from a master artisan.
Step inside a traditional Samarkand ceramic studio and immerse yourself in one of the city’s most iconic artistic traditions. Samarkand ceramics are known worldwide for their deep cobalt-blue patterns set against bright white backgrounds — a striking blend of geometric precision and flowing floral motifs. These designs date back to the Timurid era, when Samarkand stood at the heart of the Silk Road as a center of art and craftsmanship. During this hands-on masterclass, a skilled local artisan will introduce you to the meaning behind traditional patterns — symbols of abundance, protection, harmony, and eternity. You’ll then work with natural pigments, including the famous cobalt oxide that creates Samarkand’s signature blue. Guided step by step, you’ll practice traditional brush techniques and decorate your chosen piece — a tea bowl (piyola), decorative plate, or ceramic tile inspired by historic designs. By the end of the session, you won’t just take home a souvenir — you’ll carry with you a piece of Samarkand’s living artistic heritage, created by your own hands.
